Is Travel Really Necessary?

Is our lust for adventure a good thing?

A few years ago at a sustainability design conference I attended, speaker after speaker shared their ideas on how to reduce the carbon impact of our everyday lives. Only one man stood out for me. His message was simple: to reduce our footprint we need to demand less; less products, less travel, less power. Only by creating a reduction in demand and subsequent consumption will our society really make the changes required.

So it was interesting to read on the BBC website this morning that the New Economics Foundation are advocating a switch to a 21 hour working week (worth a read). They argue that a shorter week would reduce unemployment, but the main benefits are far more widereaching than that. We would enjoy more time with families, more opportunity to contribute to our communities, while the lower income that results would stem our insatiable demand for consumer goods that is responsible for so much of our carbon use.

Our motto at Adventurous Women is that men are an 'optional extra', even though we love them dearly, we don't always wish to be in their company....let's face it, men and women ARE DIFFERENT and have DIFFERENT NEEDS.

10 Adventurous Women about to Embark on Egypt!

Well it's almost here.....only 4 more days until 10 Adventurous Women take off for our next adventure...and it's destination "Egypt"....I must say the excitement is building and we have a great group of women on board.

We should be easy to pick out at the Perth International Airport, as each girl will be sporting her new bright orange Adventurous Women T Shirt with the slogan "Life is an Adventure - Are you living Yours" on it - look out here we come!!!

Speaking of Egypt - today by chance, I met a lovely Egyptian couple at a quaint little coffee & gift shop they own in Hillarys. (Dunesliving) They have just returned from their home country and were happy to share their travels & tips with me. As I was in a mad rush, I said that I will return on Friday and have a chat whilst practicing my Arabic language skills with them. I spotted a Sheesha in their shop and made comment that I would be trying this for sure whilst in Egypt, so Rania said she'll bring some tobacco in for me on Friday whooooooo - hope I don't choke!

It's Wildflower Season in WA

I have had the pleasure of seeing some of the best wildflowers in Western Australia so I'd like to share where you can see them too!! Drive to Dalwallinu (2.5hrs) north east of Perth on the Great Northern Highway and call into the Telecentre. There you can get loads of information on the wild flowers and they have a very informative booklet called "Heritage Self Drive Tours". Also in Dalwallinu you will find accommodation at the Hotel, Motel and cabins in the Caravan Park, but I advise you to book!!

If you hit Dalwallinu around lunch time, I recommend going to Jenny's Bakery located in the main street. This bakery is always busy and after tasting some of their delights, you will know why!
